Revelations

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times, and when the clock stuck 13, people rejoiced. The danger was gone, or so they thought. Dec 12, 2012, widely believed to be the end of the world according to the Mayan calender, was proven to be a fantasy, a fallacy of the ancient timekeepers, or so we thought.

Little did we know that it was the time when the people born in the late 80s became most vulnerable. A deadly virus had slowly started to propagate amongst the predecessors of this generation, something that was going to change our lives forever!
Mom-Son, your cousin has got engaged ( co-incidentally a little younger than me)
<Poignant Silence>
Me- Good for him<This is not going well>
Mom-Your other cousin has almost fixed his marriage too
<Poignant silence, a little longer this time>
Me-Hope it works out < Oh no, I know where this is going, it is not gonna end well>
Mom-What will you do?
Me-Incoherent gibberish <The virus got my mom :(>
We are the only species who make such a big fuss about marriage. People living together for many years, get married, and live together for many years. Or worse, 2 strangers who have not known each other are supposed to spend the rest of their lives together, just because their elders have deemed it fit. Weird, I would say. After being unaffected by all these all these years (maybe youth keeps you immune), the virus of marriage seems to be spreading. Social media, which was once upon a time, a medium of keeping in touch with multiple people all at once has transformed itself into a melage of wedding albums. It is vicious, it is rapid and it seems to have taken over my dear country.
As I sit at the other corner of the globe, waiting out the danger, preparing to make my final stand, I wonder if this was what Neo felt like in the Matrix, when he took the blue pill. The once who have succumbed are blissfully oblivious, the once who haven’t are preparing for the inevitable. I can see the truth. It’s all clear and lucid. I have to wait out. This isn’t over yet. This is my call to my fellow beings-resist the temptation, fight it out, and together we shall overcome.
 P.S: Please don’t let any of your single lady friends I might have a shot with see this!!!
